Becoming a blogger has changed my life & career path.

As you know, I am a Female Founder and Advisor – who built this platform from the ground up all by herself. Since 2010, I have been the Facilitator and Webmaster of The Self-Discovery Retreat, an award-winning personal development blog. Through my training in counselling, I wanted to create a safe space that is accessible anytime, anywhere, for people who need support and encouragement along their journey.

Did I ever think that the young girl who didn’t like public speaking nor being seen on stage would grow up to be brave and write a blog to share her random thoughts with the world? Truth is, I didn’t.

Becoming an author and blogger was never something I planned. Rather, the idea for this platform to express my thoughts came to me “randomly” in 2010 while taking a coffee, talk, and a walk on the beach in Hawaii with my sisters.

On that walk, I thought of my younger self and how I struggled in my teens. During my teenage years, I was bullied and struggled with body image issues. I hid my talent, slouched my 6-foot-tall body, and silenced my voice because I didn’t want to stand out and be judged. I kept the pain inside and was too ashamed to talk about it.

With time, I came to realize that this wasn’t a healthy technique. Speaking up about my struggles and having a supportive community around me helped me get through it.

So, I decided to start a blog to pay it forward and empower others to speak up and keep going.  That is how the blog resulted. With no training in tech or business and no blogging community, I had only my expertise in psychology and my passion to make a difference in the world as my adrenaline. I put in the long hours and hard work to build the blog. It brought me payback, though: helping others!

A couple years into blogging as a hobby, I started to get emails like this:

"Hi Arianna, I was googling life coaching type blogs, and I've found yours, and I love your style of writing. I was originally searching for inspiration, as I'm a psychology graduate who is hoping to do something a bit more creative than the usual office job. May I ask, do you have any advice for establishing yourself as a life blogger so to speak? Any advice you could give me would be so appreciated.”

I wrote back and loved sharing what I learned. The same type of emails started to increase in frequency. Due to my prior experience teaching at a college and working with learners of all ages, I know that if one person has a question, odds are many others have the same question.

So, I took the feedback and started my own consulting business.

Since then, in addition to my own blog, I have been helping people develop their online presence. To starting their blogs. To setting up their Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook profiles. To helping them manage their online reputation.

I have created over 450+ blog posts, self-published a book, made hundreds of graphics, and now consult regularly to help people who were in my shoes when I started. Due to my blog’s success, I am regularly approached by people and businesses to translate their missions into a wide range of online and print-based graphics, videos, websites, social media accounts, presentations, books, and blog posts that guide, inspire, and lead their desired audiences.

Eight years later, my passion for blogging, content creation, and community engagement has only deepened.

I use this platform as a powerful teaching tool and love helping people develop the confidence to turn their ideas into action and support them along the way!

What keeps me lying awake at night now is how to support female founders with the funding we need to invest in ourselves and get our talents and skills out into the world! I’m turning my pain into purpose and changing the world along the way. I am always looking for new opportunities.

I look forward to hearing from you! I hope my blog inspires you to turn your thoughts into action. Please reach out with questions, comments, or just to say hi. Be sure to leave a comment on the blog posts and follow me on social media!
